Biography
My name is Jasper Pauwels and I have been helping clients reach their target audience across the globe since 2017. I have known that I wanted to become a translator since I was a teenager. That is why I chose to study the art of translation at renowned institutions in the Netherlands and Belgium. After obtaining my bachelor’s degree in translation at the School of Translation and Interpreting – part of Zuyd University of Applied Sciences –, I pursued a master’s degree in translation at the University of Antwerp. The profession-focused nature of my bachelor’s combined with the academic depth of my master’s gave me an excellent starting point and I still reap the fruits of my education today.
In recent years, I have specialised in two distinct fields, namely legal translations and marketing translations. This is a rare combination, as these areas of expertise require very different skills and present their own challenges. This variety keeps me focused and increases my work satisfaction.
I take pride in my work and I do my utmost to help my clients to the best of my abilities. I do not settle for ‘good enough’ and I always aim for the most suitable translation. I am happy to share my passion and I am honoured to be frequently invited as a guest speaker at the School of Translation and Interpreting. My active membership of SENSE – the Society of English-language professionals in the Netherlands – as well as my membership of the Netherlands Association of Interpreters and Translators (NGTV) is further evidence of my commitment to the craft.
As a translator you never stop learning and I have taken this one step further by continually expanding my subject-matter knowledge of law. I have, for example, followed courses on American and English law, and closer to home, European law. A full overview of the courses I have competed is included below. I am currently studying for my bachelor’s degree in Dutch law at the Open Universiteit to further broaden and deepen my legal knowledge. As a lawyer-linguist-to-be, I want to provide meticulous translations of complex legal documents, with a full understanding of the underlying legal principles, legislation and regulations.
